Testing: Raw/Virgin hair doesn't have follicles

Hair has follicles. When the hair naturally falls out, or when the hair is brushed, some hairs come out with the follicles still attached to them. In the Chinese countryside people will collect these hairs and sell them.

When you look closely at the bundles, you can sometimes still see the follicles attached to them. So whenever you see them, you know that the hair isn’t raw.
